THIAGO NEVS

b. 1985, São Paulo, Brazil

Thiago Nevs lives and works in São Paulo, Brazil. In his practice, he explores the connection between memory, popular culture and traditional aesthetics associated with South America. His research manifests in the production of objects, sculptures, installations, and paintings.

Born on the outskirts of São Paulo, Thiago is interested in visual narratives that have been historically marginalized by hegemonic art systems. His work brings together found objects and surrealist landscapes that draw parallels between personal subjective perspectives and historical-cultural contexts. Blending a visual repertoire that is heavily influenced by artistic expressions from popular and urban cultures, especially “fileta-gem” (ornamental painting on truck bodies), the “abridores de letras” (letter painters) of boats from north Brazil, and from street art found in large urban centres that he frequents. His unique visual language is visible in murals spread across Brazil and Europe, created either by invitation from urban art festivals or through spontaneous interventions in the places he passes through.

Thiago has exhibited his work in numerous exhibitions globally including solo exhibitions such as SOLO PROGRAM ART RIO Art Fair (Asfalto Gallery, Rio de Janeiro, 2024), and “SOBRE-CARGA” (Luis Maluf Gallery, São Paulo, 2022).
