EXHIBITION STATEMENT

The entire premise of the show is an absurdist realisation of life. To deconstruct the art of creation through the idea of repetition, and the impact said repetition has on one’s psyche. Especially in the context of art and what defines
the artistic purpose.

Referencing the mythological tale of King Sisyphus and his eternal damnation, the artistic practice is a ritualistic, cyclical process that has varied impacts on the human psyche. Like Sisyphus, we are caught in an eternal battle of trying to reach a height within our creation, or our careers, or relationships only for us to start the journey all over again. Cyclical.

The premise of the show is a way to deconstruct Albert Camus’s quote “One must imagine Sisyphus Happy” in our journey in self-discovery and creative exploration through rituals. By trying to dismantle these existential issues and find a sense of meaning and bliss in them.
